Joni Fontoura

Managing Director and Partner

Joni has over a decade of experience in infrastructure and energy investing.

He previously served on infrastructure investor Meridiam's investment team, where he led numerous transactions across various geographies and sectors. Inter alia, Joni led Meridiam’s first investments in the energy space in North America, in the campus energy and biogas fields.

In addition to his investment roles, Joni played an integral part in overseeing Meridiam's portfolio assets, holding positions on several project boards, including the one overseeing the reconstruction and operation of La Guardia Terminal B Airport in New York. He was also responsible for overseeing Meridiam’s relationship with financial institutions in the Americas.

Joni started his career at investment bank Lazard Freres and had previous experiences at Veolia Water and at the French Sovereign Investment Fund.

Joni holds engineering degrees from Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées in France and the University of Porto in Portugal. He was also a Fulbright Scholar at Harvard University, where he earned his master's degree with a focus on public administration and policy.
